Homestead Garden Project

6th January 2012

Hola chicos, selaminewu/selaminesh, hallo Leute!
Here is Cani from Argentina, Desalee from Ethiopia and Paula from Germany!
Right now, we’re enjoying our last evening of the Homestead Garden Project, because tomorrow we’re going back to the UWC Waterford Kamhlaba Campus.
The last two days we spent with gardening the vegetable bed for the orphanage up the hill. First, we remove the grass and then we dug and prepared the soil for planting.
This was our task for today, we planted a let of spinach, garbage, carrots and tomatoes.
Tomorrow, we’ll fix the gate for the garden.
The children and women of the orphanage were kindly supporting us so we got everything done in a quite short amount of time.
Before lunch, we played with the children. They were teaching us singing games and Cani showed all of us how to do the ‘macarena’ dance. It was a let of fun!
Also, we were really impressed by the strength of the two women who are looking after the 50 orphans. They prepare breakfast and lunch for them, play with them and also teach them some essential things, like counting. Respect!
All these people touched our heart. We came to help them, to change their daily life at least a little bit for the better and in the end they helped us to see some new things and this, they somehow changed our life too.
That’s it for now!
Chau! Denahugn! Tschuess!
